Learn to Curl FAQ

Q: How long does a Learn-to-Curl session last?
A: The session lasts for 2 hours. You will need to show up about 15 minutes early and are more then welcome to stay afterward and socialize in our warm room.
Q: What will you teach us at a Learn-to-Curl session?
A: The first 20 minutes will be an off-ice introduction to the game including the terminology and the equipment. The next 40 minutes will consist of on-ice instruction where you will learn to sweep and deliver a stone. After you have perfected the delivery and sweeping you will move on to play in a game with other people in the Learn-to-Curl.
Q: Do I need any special equipment?
A: No. You just need to bring a clean pair of tennis shoes. All other equipment will be provided by the club.
Q: Is there a minimum age to participate in a Learn-to-Curl session?
A: There is no minimum age. If the participant is under 18 years of age then their legal guardian will need to sign a liability release form. The suggested minimum age is 12 but if you have someone that is under that age that is eager to come out and give it a try then we will work with them.
Q: Where are you located?
A: We are located at 2999 Silver Dr, Columbus, OH 43214. Here is a link to us on Google Maps. We are pretty difficult to find so instead of looking for Columbus Curling Club, look for the Bunk and Loft Factory. We are located in the same building as them so if you find them then you have found us. Their building is a two story yellow building with a red roof that says "Bunk and Loft Factory" on it. Pull into the parking lot on the south side of the Bunk and Loft Factory and drive back to the loading dock area and you have found the Columbus Curling Club.
Q: I'm interested in the Instructional League but why is there a gap between the 4 weeks and 2 weeks?
A: Curling is a seasonal sport and we are set to turn off the compressor and let the ice melt on 4/4. We will fire things back up again in the fall on 10/2. The cost to maintain ice in the summer time is too great especially with the poor insulation that we have in our current building.
Q: Are spectators allowed to come and watch?
A: Absolutely! Bring all your friends on out. The more the merrier. They are more than welcome to come sit in the warmroom and watch a Learn-to-Curl session or even league play.
Q: I'm from Cincinnati area, is there any curling closer to where I live?
A: You are in luck! Greg Banks started curling at the Indian Hill Winter Club. They will be holding Learn-to-Curl sessions also in the next month. Members have first dibs on ice time but the clinic will be $20 for non-members. Don't let the fact that it is in Indian Hill scare you away from checking it out!
Q: I see that you have Learn-to-Curl clinics scheduled through 3/7/2010. Are there going to be any more clinics after 3/7/2010?
A: We will play this by ear. We will probably be adding clinics once we see if there is any open ice time after everyone signs up for the Instructional Leagues. The best option is to sign up to be kept informed of when we add new clinics. You can sign up here and we will put you on a mailing list.
