Learn To Curl Private Outings

Private Outings

The Columbus Curling Club hosts private learn-to-curl clinics for corporations, sports teams, school, youth and church groups or any other large group of people.

Our facility is located beside I-71 between North Broadway and Weber Road exits on the north side of Columbus (just north of the Crew stadium.) It is equipped with a warm room that normally contains seating for 24, a bar and TV screens. We have hosted corporate meetings for up to 50 people in this space. If there are any barriers preventing people from curling during an outing, there are plenty of seats in the warm room to watch the activity on the ice through large picture windows.

Before any participant or spectator can enter the cold room (the big space with the frozen water) a release of liability must be signed.  A parent or guardian must sign the form for anyone under the age of 18. Organizers of outings are encouraged to download the waiver here and distribute to their group so that they can be completed and brought to the outing to get you onto the ice faster.

The outing will last approximately two hours and will consist of an off-ice introduction to the sport, where participants will learn about all the different terms in curling e.g. hog line, tee line, draw, takeout, hack, etc. Curling has its own language and we will help people to master it.  After everyone speaks fluent curling, the group will head onto the ice and learn how to sweep and deliver stones for about 40 minutes. The group will then be divided into teams of 3 or 4 (depending on the group size) to play a couple of ends of a real game for the final hour.

After the conclusion of the game, participants are welcome to socialize in the warm room for a drink afterwards. It is curling tradition that the winner buys the loser a drink – we sell both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

The following points may answer some of the questions that you have about these outings:
  • The minimum group size to book an outing is 16. We can accommodate up to 24 people on the ice at a time. If there is a larger group, one portion of the group can hang out in the warm room while the other portion is on the ice. Then the groups can switch places.
  • We provide all of the equipment needed, e.g. stones, sliders and brooms. Participants only need to bring comfortable, loose fitting and warm clothes as well as clean tennis-type shoes. Jeans are acceptable to wear, but sports pants are better. We prefer people to bring gym or another pair of shoes that are not worn on the street. Dirt tracked in on shoes affects our ice. We do have a boot cleaner if participants do not have alternate shoes. There are men’s and lady’s change rooms in the facility.
  • The following are the costs for outings:
    • Business/corporate groups: $35 per participant.
    • Social groups: $30 per participant.
    • Church/school youth groups: $10 per participant.
  • If businesses would like to use our space for meetings in addition to the curling outing, please email for rates.
  • A non-refundable 50% deposit is required to book an event. The remainder is due at the event before it begins. If more than one organization requests the same time slot, the group paying their deposit first will receive their requested time. The cost for an outing provides each participant with a one-day social membership, allowing them to purchase beverages from the in-club bar. Prices include beers for $2 and $3, small snack items at two for $1 and pop and water for $1. Prices are subject to change.  Deposits are only refundable if the outing is canceled due to Level II Snow Emergency for Franklin County.
  • Groups are welcome to bring their own food and non-alcoholic beverages in or have events catered.  All alcoholic beverages must be purchased from the curling club.  There unfortunately is no kitchen facility on site.
  • A liability waiver must be signed in advance by all participants.  This can be done upon arrival at the club. Participants under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian sign a waiver for them.
  • There is high demand for ice time. All of our leagues and other events are shown on our calendar on the website. If there is a date and time you are interested in, send an email request to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with as many details as possible. Our organization is strictly run by volunteers. So instructors are more difficult to schedule during weekdays.
Curling is a sport where teams have to work together and communicate effectively to be successful. It is also an extremely fun sport! Being your team out to learn an Olympic sport and have a great time.

Good curling eh!
